The Foundation's Journey
Jabungu Foundation (JF) operates as a registered, independent, non-governmental, and non-profit civil society organization based in Meru, Arusha. Specifically, JF empowers marginalized and underserved communities, dedicating itself to capacity building and the delivery of essential services.
Jabungu Foundation draws its name from the Jaluo word Jabunguu, meaning “a man of the forest,” a title often given to a resilient cattle herder. The story begins with its founder, Mr. Agustino, who from a young age was entrusted with caring for his family’s cattle, spending long days in the fields instead of the classroom. Because of this, he started school late and faced many hardships brought on by his family’s economic struggles. Yet these early challenges shaped his strength, discipline, and vision. Inspired by his journey, Jabungu Foundation was created to support and uplift others facing similar obstacles, turning hardship into opportunity and resilience into impact.
JF implements a broad range of interventions across various districts in Tanzania. These key sectors include education, healthcare and hygiene, youth and women empowerment, environmental conservation, as well as sports and talent development. Crucially, its programs focus particularly on the most vulnerable and disadvantaged populations.
The foundation’s approach combines grassroots engagement with active community participation. Therefore, JF emphasizes local involvement in all its initiatives. Furthermore, it places a strong focus on mobilizing women to foster peace, tolerance, and sustainable development.
Despite being a relatively young organization, JF has built a strong and diverse network of national and international partnerships. Notable collaborators include
