Jabungu Small-Scale Fruit Farming Project
Jabungu Small-Scale Fruit Farming at Sarame
The Jabungu Small-Scale Fruit Farming Project started its journey in 2023. We are located near Goldenhill Ground in Sarame, Magugu. Our farm provides healthy food for the current camp members. Additionally, this project will support a new school in the future. We believe that sustainable food leads to better education.
Permaculture Methods in Small-Scale Fruit Farming
before started farming here the nature of the soil was sand soil with any fertility initWe use natural permaculture methods to manage our land. Our team uses organic manure from our own cattle. Sometimes, we buy extra manure from our local neighbors. This process keeps the soil fertile without using chemicals. Everyone living at the camp helps with the farm work. Thus, the project teaches valuable skills to the whole community.
Our Diverse Fruit Varieties
Currently, we manage 3 acres of productive land. We grow a wide range of fruits, including:
Core Crops: Mangoes, Papayas, and Bananas.
Citrus & Tart Fruits: Oranges, Lemons, and Guavas.
Health Focus: Pomegranates, Passion Fruit, and Moringa trees.
Sweet Additions: Sugarcane and seasonal Watermelons.
Future Goals for Small-Scale Fruit Farming
Our vision is to expand to 15 hectares of land. However, the Magugu climate is often very harsh and dry. Therefore, we urgently need a professional irrigation system. This system will ensure our trees survive the heat. Consistent water is the key to our future growth.
Planned Community Tree Nursery
We also plan to launch a community tree nursery soon. This sector will produce small trees for the local village. We want to help our neighbors start their own gardens. Sharing these trees will improve the environment for everyone. This nursery is a vital step for our local ecosystem.
