Stingless Bee Farming in Tanzania: The Humble Nyuki Project
The Origin: Humble Nyuki Project at Goldenhill Vocational College
The Humble Nyuki Project began at Goldenhill Vocational College in 2023. Specifically, a dedicated group of French Polytech students made this vision a reality. These students donated the initial resources, time and built a specialized bee house on our campus. Furthermore, they provided 100 full finished beehives to establish our foundational colonyof stingless bees. This international collaboration ensures our stingless bee farming follows sustainable engineering standards. Currently, we have 5 active housed hives as we prepare to scale in for the future.
The Vision: Expanding the Humble Nyuki Project
We have ambitious plans to grow the Humble Nyuki Project significantly. Specifically, our goal is to
- Acquire 200 more hives to increase our total bee colony. This expansion will allow us to become a leading center for meliponiculture in Manyara.
- Furthermore, increasing the colony ensures a steady supply of medicinal honey for the community.
- Consequently, our stingless bee farming in Tanzania will provide a sustainable income for the Jabungu Foundation. We are now seeking partners to help fund these 200 additional hives.
The Educational Impact: Benefits for Goldenhill Vocational College
The Humble Nyuki Project offers unique educational advantages for our vocational students. Since these “humble” bees do not sting, students can work with the hives safely. Specifically, they learn about biology, environmental conservation, and sustainable business management. Furthermore, the project teaches them how to harvest high-value agricultural products. Therefore, our stingless bee farming creates a practical and safe learning environment. As a result, our graduates will lead the future of eco-friendly farming.
Health and Farm Benefits: Stingless Bee Honey Benefits
Our project focuses on the incredible stingless bee honey benefits for the Sarame community. This rare honey is famous for its powerful medicinal properties and high antioxidant levels. Specifically, we will use the honey to support student health and treat local respiratory issues. Furthermore, the bees provide a vital service to our permaculture farm through pollination. Their presence increases the yield of our gardens and local crops significantly. Consequently, the Humble Nyuki Project improves both the nutrition and environment of our village.
