Uhai Poultry Farm: A Transformative Poultry Farm in Tanzania

The Problem: Food Insecurity and a Poultry Farm in Tanzania

Poultry farm in tanzania, Many rural families in the Manyara region struggle with high food costs. Specifically, students at local primary and secondary often lack consistent access to healthy protein. Consequently, malnutrition hinder their ability to learn effectively. Furthermore, the community of Sarame lacks a reliable source of affordable eggs, since they relay on local chicken rearing . Establishing a professional poultry farm  became an urgent priority for the Jabungu Foundation. Therefore, we designed a project to solve these nutritional gaps locally.

The Solution: A Sustainable Poultry Farm.

We proudly established this poultry farm within the Goldenhill Vocational School compound. Specifically, brilliant Polytech students from France launched the project in July 2025. These partners secured primary funding through the Lifetime Projects initiative. Moreover, they introduced a flock of 600 Rhode Island Red chickens. This breed excels in the local climate. As a result, our poultry farm in Tanzania now serves as a hub for nutrition.

Why We Chose Rhode Island Reds for This Poultry Farm in Tanzania

  • We specifically selected Rhode Island Reds to ensure the long-term success of the project. First, these birds demonstrate incredible resilience in the Tanzanian heat. Furthermore, they are dual-purpose birds that provide both high-quality eggs and meat. Consequently, they offer the best return on investment for the school. Therefore, this breed choice makes our poultry farm highly efficient and productive.
  • Our Uhai poultry farm will provide more than just food when the college opens. Specifically, future Goldenhill students will participate in the daily management of the flock. This hands-on experience will teach them modern agricultural techniques. Moreover, they will learn the business side of egg production and sales. Consequently, they will graduate with the skills to start their own poultry farm. Thus, we are preparing to cultivate the next generation of Tanzanian farmers.

The Sustainability Loop of Our Uhai Poultry Farm

We will manage this poultry farm in Tanzania using a self-sustaining financial model. First, the farm will provide fresh eggs for the future college students’ daily meals. Subsequently, we sell the surplus eggs to the Sarame community at affordable prices. This income specifically covers the current costs of chicken feed and vaccines. Consequently, the project does not rely on constant external donations for daily operations. This loop ensures our poultry farm in Tanzania remains operational for many years.

Our Partnership for This Uhai  Poultry Farm

The success of this poultry farm in Tanzania stems from strong international collaboration. Specifically, our partnership with Lifetime Projects and French Polytech students made this vision possible. These talented students provided the initial engineering and technical training in July 2025. Furthermore, they continue to offer vital support for our future expansion plans. This global teamwork ensures that our Uhai poultry farm maintains international standards. Consequently, we provide the best possible care for our Rhode Island Red flock.
